VPICs serve as the primary village institutions for implementing MegLIFE activities. They drive planning, coordination, and community participation at the grassroots level. Inclusive representation, especially of women, strengthens transparency and local leadership.

The Community Development and Livelihood Improvement component empower rural communities by enhancing their participation, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and supporting SHGs and micro-enterprises. It includes community mobilization, micro-planning, and gender sensitization to ensure inclusive development. Entry Point Activities and small infrastructure like water tanks are introduced to build trust and improve basic needs. The overall goal is to reduce pressure on forests by offering alternative income sources and strengthening community institutions.

MegLIFE focuses on building strong community and institutional frameworks by empowering Village Committees, VCFs, SHGs, IVCSs, and frontline staff. Through targeted training, leadership development, and system strengthening, the project enhances implementation capacity at every level. It fosters transparency, coordination, and participatory governance. Strengthened institutions and trained personnel ensure long-term sustainability and impact of natural resource management and livelihood activities across Meghalaya.

Sustainable Forest Management under the MegLIFE project focuses on restoring degraded forests, conserving healthy ecosystems, and improving the lives of forest-dependent communities across Meghalaya. By involving local people in land use planning, forest regeneration, Establishment of Community Nurseries, and conservation activities, the project promotes the sustainable use of natural resources.

By bridging communities and project teams, Village Community Facilitators (VCFs) help drive the successful delivery of MegLIFE activities at the village level. Equipped with tablets and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, they strengthen monitoring and reporting systems.

Data-driven technologies such as Geographic information system,Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Remote Sensing, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) strengthen MegLIFE’s vision for resilient landscapes.

They help identify priority areas for intervention and enable effective tracking of progress across restoration, water conservation, and livelihood activities.

Through capacity building, MegLIFE enhances local skills, leadership, and institutional capacity for sustainable natural resource management and livelihoods. Ongoing training supports Self Help Groups, Integrated Village Cooperative Societies, Village Project Implementation Committees, and frontline staff in driving community-led development.
