On September 19, 2025, World Bamboo Day was marked with vibrant celebrations across 12 districts of Meghalaya under the MegLIFE project, spotlighting bamboo as a symbol of sustainability, innovation, and livelihood. From drawing and essay competitions in schools across Garo Hills and Khasi Hills to dynamic exhibitions of bamboo-based products by local entrepreneurs, the events brought together communities, students, and innovators. Highlights included inspiring addresses by dignitaries like Dr. Vijay Kumar (IAS), Mission Director, and members of the SPMU team, alongside engaging interactions with students and entrepreneurs. The day also saw the recognition of skilled artisans as "Bamboo Champions" and the distribution of essential equipment to village cooperative societies to boost bamboo enterprises. With creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainability at its core, the celebration reaffirmed bamboo's role as a future-ready resource driving green livelihoods and community empowerment across Meghalaya.
